Here is how to make this recipe and I'll show you with step by step instructions below.

Before beginning, prepare the banana by peeling it and placing it on your serving dish. For best results, use a firm banana to make spreading the nut butter easier.

Step 1: Spread On the Peanut Butter

Firstly, spread the peanut butter, or your favorite nut butter, onto the top half of the banana.

Step 2: Sprinkle On the Hemp Seeds

Secondly, sprinkle the hemp seeds on top of the peanut butter.

Other options for a topping are chia seeds, shredded coconut, or sesame seeds.

Step 3: Slice The Banana

Thirdly, slice the banana into "sushi-size" pieces and enjoy! That's it!

Here are some of my expert tips to make this recipe perfectly:

Banana. Since the size of bananas can vary, you may need to use a little more than (1) tablespoon of peanut butter + hemp seeds to cover the surface of the banana.

Peanut Butter.  It can be substituted with any other type of nut butter. For example, to keep this recipe 100% Medical Medium® Compliant and paleo-friendly, use cashew butter, almond butter, sunflower butter, etc.

Hemp Seeds. It can be substituted with sesame seeds, shredded coconut, chia seeds, etc.

What is Banana Sushi?

"Banana Sushi" is an easy three-layer kid-friendly recipe I created in 2013 that uses a banana and just a few clean, healthy ingredients to resemble traditional sushi made with rice. For example, the base is a firm banana topped with your favorite nut butter and then topped with a healthy topping such as hemp seeds, chia seeds, or shredded coconut. It is then cut into thin slices that look like pieces of sushi which I why I called it "sushi".

Where Did Banana "Sushi" Come From?

Banana sushi is a fun recipe I created for my two young boys back in 2013.

This recipe became an inspiration to many copycat recipes over the years.

Since it was such a big hit, I later created several other versions:

• Banana Sushi with Sweet Tahini and Matcha Spread

However, this is my most kid-friendly version and my boy's favorite!

Can I Use Different Toppings for Banana Sushi?

Yes! Feel free to use your favorite toppings or whatever you have on hand. Many of the copycat recipes that have come along after my original version in 2013 use unhealthy ingredients such as boxed processed cereals like "Fruity Pebbles" and "Cinnamon Toast Crunch" (with GMO's and artificial food coloring), colored sprinkles, Jiff Peanut Butter, and Nutella.

I prefer to use clean, real food ingredients such as shredded coconut, sesame seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, pistachios, or even cacao nibs.

How Can I Make This Recipe Medical Medium® Compliant?

You can make this recipe 100% Medical Medium® Compliant or even paleo-friendly by substituting the peanut butter with another nut butter such as almond butter or sunflower seed butter.
